Maria Bentes was born in the Azores, grew up in the Alentejo and lives in Lisbon. And it was day-to-day life that gave rise, in a very organic way and as a need for expression, to SILLY, her most intimate and sincere self, which comes to life at this point of convergence between her two pleasures: music and words. Music was always on her side as she studied guitar and piano. She later fell in love with hip hop, jazz, R&B and bossa nova, sounds that surround her and influence her compositions, with which she only recently began to set her lyrics to music. Despite her still short career, Silly has already collaborated with Papillon and NAPA and has played at venues such as Musicbox, Teatro de São Luiz, Maus Hábitos, MouCo, CCB, NOS Alive and MIL Lisboa festivals. Because the word is her gift, she took part in MAP – Mostra de Artes da Palavra, in Oeiras. Contrary to expectations, books and poems are not the main inspiration for her delicate and complex themes, but rather the simple act of observing and absorbing life as it happens.
FRED was born in Lisbon and at the age of 15 was already playing with Yellow W Van. He is a drummer in bands such as Orelha Negra, Banda do Mar and 5-30, and has played with Buraka Som Sistema, Mallu Magalhães, João Só, Sam The Kid and Adriana Calcanhotto, among many others. In addition to Portugal, his drumming has been heard in places as diverse as the USA, Japan, Africa, Australia, China, Russia, Brazil, Colombia and Mexico. Nominated for 2 Grammys, he has won several awards over the years that have encouraged him to perfect his techniques and skills, the results of which have been translated into albums such as “O amor encontra-te no fim”, “Series vol.1 – ‘madlib’ or ‘Fred x Regina Guimarães – Mãos No Fogo’. Off stage, but always connected to music, he co-founded the “iá” studio, created the Kambas label and produced albums by Frankie Chavez, Raquel Tavares, Mafalda Veiga and Diogo Piçarra.
Silly’s debut album – “Miguela” – was also produced by Fred and it is this duo that now comes to WOOL, challenged to carry out an immersive experience of composition and collaborative work with and through the territory, in which they will remain for the duration of the festival.
The result of this collaboration? We will all find out at RUA WOOL on June 15th!
