In 2017, WOOL was invited to produce an intervention during the Encontro Nacional de Estudantes de Design (ENED) (National Meeting for Design Students) at the Beira Interior University.

In answering that invitation, we challenged the Portuguese artist Regg Salgado to create a proposal for the Miradouro das Portas do Sol (Portas do Sol lookout).

The mural Regg Salgado created represents the hands of manual labour, particularly the threaders’ hands. These women had the job of manually correcting any faults in the fabric by replacing threads broken during weaving. These threads were attached to the mural and flutter in the wind as if to involve the memory of the threaders’ hands in a modern visual.
